SLEEP v1.05 Readme ------------------------------------------------ * WHEN YOU SAVE A SAVESTATE, IT ONLY WRITES TO THE AREA WITH LEVEL DATA. IT WILL NOT CREATE AN ENTIRE SAVESTATE, SO YOU MUST USE A READY MADE ONE FOR THE LEVEL YOU ARE EDITING. Getting Started: To start using SLEEP you will need: - to be familiar with computers - winzip or a similar extraction tool. - have a sonic 2 rom and an emulator - a tileset (provided on the website). It is recommended that you get STS_S2 from the website. It has tilesets for Sonic 2 final. - and finally, you will need SLEEP. It is the first download on the website. If you try to run SLEEP and it doesn't work download the file: REQDLL from the website and unzip it into the same folder as SLEEP. BASIC STEPS TO USING SLEEP. 1. Make a Sonic 2 savestate in EHZ, from either Genecyst or Gens. 2. Run SLEEP. 3. Once in SLEEP, goto FILE->Choose Tileset. 4. Goto the EHZ tileset (part of STS_S2.zip) which you should have unzipped into a folder. 5. Open EHZ.sts. SLEEP will start loading the tileset. 6. Goto FILE->Open Level->From Savestate 7 Find the savestate you made earlier and open it. 8. You should now be able to move around EHZ by using the scrollbars. 9 On the right of the SLEEP window, is a tile browser. To select a tile, simply click it. You will see the enlarged version in a box below. If you click within the level, any tile you click will be replaced by this one. 10. Once you have finished editing you level, you can save it back into the savestate. Goto FILE->Save Level->to Savestate. You should be able to work it out from there. Notes about EDITING the Sonic 2 Beta ROM. ------------------------------------------------------------------ In the file->Open Level menu there is "from ROM". This can only be used with Sonic 2 Beta. A level loaded from Sonic 2 Beta can be converted to savestate form and vice-versa. (at the bottom of the SLEEP window is a button: "CONVERT LEVEL FORMAT". This will change the level format to match ROM or savestate. Saving to a savestate will not make a savestate. It only rewrites level data in a savestate, so you must use an old savestate for that level. Loading levels from savestates and putting them into the ROM usual works fine.
